Vector Research Labs

I am the founder and principal investigator of Vector Research Labs, a service-disabled veteran-owned small business in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. We build Echo, an inference engine that reads autonomic state from the wearables people already own.

Echo works across four time scales at once, from beat-to-beat variability up to changes that only appear across days, and returns a single readable state along with the features that drove it. The governing rule is that the system flags and the expert decides. It is not a medical device and it does not diagnose.

We do not build sensors. The measurement problem has thousands of people working on it. The unsolved problem is what the signal means for one specific person on one specific day, and that is where the company sits.

I came to software from a non-technical background and taught myself the stack because I needed something built and nobody was going to build it for me. Most of what follows was written solo.

Echo Edge

A dependency-free inference core small enough to run on the device holding the sensor, with no cloud connection required. Compiled to WebAssembly, it runs in a browser against a live chest strap. Entered in the Arm Create AI Optimization Challenge.

Reel

A text-to-video pipeline built for the Backblaze Generative Media Hackathon. Keeping a character recognizable from shot to shot was the hard part, and solving it produced the pattern the next build runs on.

Scrim

An adaptive test engine that adjusts difficulty as the student answers, built for the Replit Designathon. It becomes the capstone assessment in a course I teach.

Juliet

An operations agent that sweeps on a schedule, works a queue of open commitments, and drafts what needs answering. It never sends anything on its own. Running live on AWS Bedrock AgentCore.

Whetstone

A thinking partner built to disagree. Most assistants agree with you, which is the least useful thing they could do. This one pushes back, digs, and keeps following the thread until the idea either holds or falls apart.

Sourced

A crawler that reads SEC Form D filings and explains, row by row, why each one matters to the person reading it. The first product I have put a price on.

Tower

A portfolio agent built the way I was trained to work traffic. It watches every competition I have open, checks what I have actually built against what each one requires, and calls my phone when something is about to slip.

How I got here

I controlled air traffic in the Navy, which is the work of reading a system under pressure and knowing when to act. Everything since has been a version of that.
